Celebrating the 22nd Anniversary of the Opening of the Alexandria National Museum

By/ Nasr Salama

The Alexandria National Museum is a unique architectural masterpiece. Its building was originally a palace for Asaad Basily Pasha, built in 1928 in the Italian architectural style. The idea of transforming the palace into a museum began in 1997 when the Egyptian government purchased it from the American consulate, which was using it as its headquarter. Restoration work started then, culminating in its opening in 2003
The museum consists of three floors displaying a distinguished collection of artifacts from different historical eras of Egyptian civilization, from the Old Kingdom to the modern era
