Breathing New Life into Egypt’s Cities: Path to Urban Renewal through BrownfieldRedevelopment

By Nasr Salama
Egypt’s cities are expanding rapidly, and brownfield sites offer untapped potential for urban sustainable growth. Transforming these spaces from abandoned plots into vibrant, functional areas can spark local economic growth, create jobs, and breathe new life into surrounding neighborhoods

To drive this forward, Egypt, Germany and Switzerland are joining forces on the Urban Renewal project. As part of the broader Capacity Building through Urban Infrastructure Development (CBUID) project, this partnership with the Urban Development Fund (UDF) will advance urban renewal in Egypt with a particular focus on socially integrated and inclusive brownfield redevelopment. This initiative is implemented by GIZ Egypt, commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and co-financed by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO)

This is only the beginning
Stay tuned for our next post as we take you inside the project’s very first kickoff meeting.
